CMA scrutiny of OCS-Mitie raises questions for fleet suppliers

The Competition and Markets Authority has begun its assessment of the proposed combination of OCS and Mitie, two of the UK's largest integrated facilities management companies. The CMA will consider whether the merger reduces competition in specific service lines or geographies, and whether clients—public and private—might face fewer choices or upward price pressure. The outcome will influence not only FM service delivery but also the vehicle and supply-chain strategies of the merged entity.

Fleet managers working within FM organisations, or supplying services to them, should pay attention. Consolidation can deliver economies of scale and improved technology investment, but it can also lead to revised procurement strategies, contract renegotiations and changes in supplier panels. Businesses that provide vehicles, maintenance or telematics to large FM operators may find themselves dealing with new buying teams, tighter terms or volume-driven pricing pressure.

If you lease vehicles to, or through, a large FM provider—or if you compete for contracts against integrated suppliers—now is the time to review your flexibility and value proposition. Ensure your leasing arrangements do not lock you into long cycles that prevent competitive re-pricing. Multi-funder access and independent broker advice become especially valuable when the customer landscape consolidates and procurement becomes more centralised and data-driven.
